SgurrEnergy’s implementation team is a busy and exciting place to work. During the last few months we’ve been delivering projects for clients around the world, as far afield as Salkhit wind farm in Mongolia and right on our Glasgow headquarters’ doorstep, like Bankend Rig wind farm in Ayrshire. Through our work as owner’s engineer, we support developers by project managing the technical detail of their renewable energy projects, from concept through to operation.
Specialising in project delivery, we tailor our wide range of services to suit each project and, more importantly, each of our clients.
With the considerable expertise of our mechanical, electrical and civil engineering specialists on call, the team are able to effectively and efficiently manage the daily challenges encountered on large scale engineering projects.
Bankend Rig was an exciting project for the team, particularly because we were involved in the project from early on. We get tremendous satisfaction when we can see the projects that we work on transforming from idea to reality and all of our hard work pays off as the generation meter turns.
As a team of technical project managers, we consulted on:
- Risk management
- Project scheduling
- Concept design
- Contract negotiation
- Financial close
- Construction supervision
- Testing, snagging and sign off.
With this project recently energised, we were delighted to extend our contract with the client and hand management over to our operations team.
The implementation team gets involved in every aspect of the project, allowing us to manage the risks to deliver successfully. It also gives us the satisfaction of seeing the project implemented and operating.
We are surrounded by experts in the different technical and commercial elements of building renewable energy projects and this is key to providing owner’s engineer services to our clients. The engineering specialists can assist with any technical queries a project may encounter, and working alongside our due diligence team means that we have direct access to what lenders will require from a project, so we can always keep our clients one step ahead.
As an experienced project manager, we ensure that we always know what is happening on a project, what the keys risks are and how the project is progressing compared to the plan. We help to create that plan and we help to resolve the hiccups that inevitably appear along the way.
With projects worth many tens, hundreds and sometimes thousands of millions of pounds, keeping track of these items and planning for the eventualities saves huge amounts of money and makes our job worthwhile. We usually account for less than 2% of the project costs, and often get a project through that otherwise would have floundered, saving very large sums of money.
We have many other projects ongoing for clients that we can’t yet talk about, but we look forward to reporting on their successes in the coming months.
