Control & Instrumentation – SCADA
SgurrEnergy has a range of experience and expertise in the application, design and implementation of a variety of SCADA systems and wind farm and conventional generation control systems. SgurrEnergy can design, procure, integrate and project manage all a client's site communication needs, including:
- Managing the delivery of site telecommunications broad band, fixed, radio networks, satellite, GSM.
- Remote monitoring of electrical metering and protection equipment using remote telemetry units (RTUs) communicating over the communications systems onto private networks or the internet.
- Remote monitoring of SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and control systems using communications networks discussed above
- Remote monitoring and data logging of electrical load and meteorological instrumentation using GSM and wired communications and low power data logging systems
We also offer design, integration and commissioning services for general control, instrumentation and SCADA systems, including:

Electrical Design
SgurrEnergy can design, specify and project manage the electrical scope of a wind farm or other renewable and non-renewable project:
- Carry out pre-feasibility grid connection review
- Carry out detailed grid connection reviews grid studies and system simulations
- Liaise with the local DNO (Distribution Network Operator) and National Grid on behalf of the client to obtain grid connections
- Manage and specify the delivery of contestable grid connections
- Model and simulate a wind farm electrical network in industry standard power system analysis software
- Carry out electrical design studies, generate procurement specifications and lists of materials
Electrical Technical Advisor
Our experience electrical engineering team can provide services and support for clients in a variety of areas:
- Generate fully detailed employers requirements for all electrical components of a wind farm, for example Balance of Plant ER’s and Turbine Supply ER’s.
- Grid code compliance, review, submission of grid connection application, management of UDL (User Data Library) submission.
- Under take full review of all electrical studies
- Wind farm layout design
- Provide on site embedded / owner’s electrical engineer
- Technical Contract negotiation
- Expert witness, attendance of factory witness test for key items, for example main and turbine transformers, medium voltage and high voltage cables, SCADA systems and switchgear and protection panels

- Project management
- Supervise wind farm construction, commission, acceptance, snagging and handover
- Provide due diligence advice and reports for project financiers, lenders and banks
