Site search and appraisal (multi MW), UK, Confidential Marine Energy Technology Developer, 2008

SgurrEnergy has recently completed a site search and appraisal study for a wave energy technology developer. The scope of this assessment included wave resource evaluation, grid connection potential, as well as environmental and technical constraints.

Technical Due Diligence on Tidal Energy Convertor (1 MW), UK, Confidential Client, 2008

SgurrEnergy performed a detailed technical Due Diligence on a leading Tidal Energy technology on behalf of a major UK utility. The scope of work included a mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation, hydrodynamic and some environmental due diligence and review of the device.

Modelling of tidal channels and tidal farms using Computational Fluid Dynamics, Development Project

SgurrEnergy has developed the capacity, using Computational Fluids Dynamics to investigate and model the energy resource of tidal channels and ideal location of tidal device(s) within a tidal farm in order to maximise energy extraction while taking into deployment constraints.

Technical Due Diligence on CETO Wave Energy Convertor (1 MW), UK, Arbuthnot Securities, 2008

SgurrEnergy, on behalf of investment bank Arbuthnot Securities, performed an independent technical assessment of REH’s energy portfolio. The scope of this assessment included REH’s biogas and wind projects and assets, as well as the CETO wave powered desalination and electricity generation technology.

Power performance assessment and uncertainty analysis (750 kW), UK, ScottishPower, 2007

SgurrEnergy analysed the power performance of the Pelamis prototype device tested at EMEC in order to validate and gain confidence in its power table. The knowledge gained from this project and others is relevant to the energy yield assessment of wave energy device, including the analysis of inter annual variability and other uncertainties.

Site accessibility study for the Pentland Firth, UK, ScottishPower, 2007

A site accessibility study was performed to investigate wave propagation into the Pentland Firth. The study involved investigating available bathymetric data sources, and investigating the swell refraction angles of waves arriving at the mouth of the Firth.

MIKE 21 modelling of the Irish Sea, UK, Confidential Client, 2008

A mike 21 model of the Irish Sea with varying resolution throughout the model domain was built. The model performed well when compared to tidal heights at ports around the Irish Sea. The model output is now in a format where it can be used to assess the current regime in different locations within the Irish Sea.

Independent Engineer for Wave Energy Developer (250 kW), UK, AWS Ocean Energy, 2008

SgurrEnergy has been appointed by AWS Ocean Energy to provide Independent Engineer services. This project is on-going. We have so far supported the specification of the set of tests (tests on completion) to be carried out on the second prototype wave energy converter, AWS Mk II, which will be constructed during 2009 and deployed and test at the EMEC test centre.

Global Review of Marine Energy Technologies, ScottishPower, 2006

SgurrEnergy completed a worldwide review of marine energy technologies on behalf of ScottishPower. The report included an assessment of over 70 wave and tidal devices (from concept to commercial). Twenty-two of these devices were selected for more detailed review that required specific information about the company and the technology to be gathered directly from the developers.
