SgurrEnergy attended and exhibited at the 'Renewables Here and Now' Conference in Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Gardens. The event provided an opportunity to promote our new Supporting Community Led Projects initiative which aims to inform communities of the possibilities and benefits associated with implementing renewable energy schemes.
We continue to work in partnership with several of Scotland's rural communities on a variety of renewable energy projects. We currently have 10m wind monitoring masts erected on sites in Antuim (Isle of Mull) and Yell (Shetland). The extent of community involvement with these projects was highlighted during the recent bout of stormy weather that hit the west coast. In January the mast in Antuim abruptly stopped recording data. The reason for this remained unclear until a member of the local community visited the site and diagnosed the problem. The mast had in actual fact blown over in winds reaching 110mph. After only a few days of inactivity, thanks to the intervention of the community and one of our engineers, the mast was raised again and is now working as normal.
We hope these masts represent the first step in the process that will finally end with a community owned wind farm on each site, generating green electricity for the benefit of local residents.
