SgurrEnergy has recently completed a site search and appraisal study on the Scottish coast for Wavegen, a world leader in wave energy and technology development. The study included identification and assessment of specific sites suitable for the development of nearshore wave energy power projects based on Wavegen’s Oscillating Water Column (OWC) technology. SgurrEnergy’s dedicated wave & tidal team developed a systematic approach to rate the relative attractiveness of a number of exposed locations along the Scottish coastline. The constraints and characteristics assessed in the study include grid connection constraints, nearshore wave energy resource, environmental and planning constraints, and technical and local users’ constraints. This assessment highlighted the areas with the highest potential for development and will inform the client’s decision making for future renewable projects in the region.
